Job Profile:

STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and agree on annual plan and associated budget for select category in conjunction with the planning team, monitor performance against this, initiating corrective action where necessary to ensure operations are conducted within agreed parameters.
  • Analyse past sales performance and do a brand wise cost-benefit study to formulate a business plan, based on projected sales turnover and forecasted figures of stocks required, to enable the company to decide on the quantity and variety of brands/products to be purchased.
  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place to cover key areas of buying activity for designated brands and effective systems are in place for monitoring compliance with all procedures to ensure effective working at all times.
  • Analyze market trends, consumer preferences , sell through, seasonal demands etc to formulate a buying practice in line with consumer /store demands

 FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and select the range, type, quality and quantity of merchandise according to customer demand, trends, store policies and set prices and sell through targets in conjunction with the Purchasing Manager to ensure they are in line with the budget
  • Maintain profitable relationships with existing suppliers , and monitor the adherence to the contract terms
  • Negotiate with new suppliers on product pricing, payment terms, cost of freight, provision of training, and the extent of their involvement in advertising and promotions, to decide on placing a purchase order with the supplier for the concerned product.
  • Collaborate with the Planning team to monitor the stock levels in the stores; coordinate with the supply chain to maintain optimal stock levels in line with the consumer demand.
  • Support the promotional activities in the store.  Receive and analyse reports on the activities and provide recommendations to the Purchasing Manager when required.
  • Review buying feedback reports and provide recommendations to Purchasing Manager/GM as to buying strategy for a respective brand/collection.
  • Work closely with the planning teams to analyse the sale turnover and consumer trends per product to arrive at a decision to maintain/liquidate/dispose off the stocks and/or continue/discontinue product lines.
  • Visit international markets, principals headquarters, trade fairs to keep abreast of market trends and to introduce a new collection of products

 PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT

  • Provide leadership and direction to team towards the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Guide and motivate team to enhance performance and produce quality work, and ensure that they are continuously developed for higher level roles.
  • Prepare performance evaluation and appraisal reports of direct reports to assess team productivity and progress and identify training needs of team members to improve efficiency and ensure conformity with standard procedures and practices.
  • Ensure that team members are acquainted with the changing situation and the developments of ATG.
Person Specification:
  • University Degree in any discipline followed by qualification in Retailing or Retail Management/ Purchase/ Sales or related programs.
  • Proven track record in the field of Purchasing & Retailing.
  • Buying experience and expertise typically gained over a period of at least 10+ years.
  • Good knowledge and experience in the (related) industry through work experience with international principals.
  • Excellent planning, financial, communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient English (Arabic/ French desirable). Keen to travel & develop network of professional & business relationships
