Adam Zuhbi joined Al Tayer Group in March 2006 as the Store Manager for Yves Saint Laurent at the Emirates Towers. A year later Adam was promoted to Brand Manager, Gucci. His current responsibilities include overseeing the operations of Gucci within the UAE, with retail presence in Emirates Towers, Mall of the Emirates, Marina Mall as well as concession in Harvey Nichols.

Before coming to Dubai I was working in the retail industry in Sydney, Australia. Joining Al Tayer was a good opportunity for me to enhance my career. Cesar Gupo joined Al Tayer Motors in May 2004 as a technician working for the Ford brand. In his time with the company he has worked on every aspect of car maintenance from brakes, under chassis, engines to diagnosis. Earlier this year, Cesar got promoted to senior technician and is currently working on the electrical and AC works. Over the last four months, Cesar has also been receiving recognition for his outstanding performance in the monthly exam taken by the technician which he has been topping.

"I started my career with Toyota in the Philippines where I worked for three years. I then moved to Toyota in Kuwait for another three years. Having decided to come back to the Philippines I joined Ford where I worked for a year and then applied for a role with the Al Tayer Group.

"The induction programme was my first insight into the significant size of the Group, which made me realise how fortunate I was to be a part of it."

Evageline Cabauata joined the Al Tayer Group in April 2006, as the first female Project Engineer. Handling three or four projects at any given time, Evageline is entrusted with the role of implementing the scope of works in a timely manner as specified in the contract. She is also responsible for the allocation of manpower and materials, ensuring that there are sufficient materials on site. Having the necessary skills and experience Evageline is keen to be part of the decision making process and will very soon be stepping into the role of a Project Manager.

"I love being an engineer; an engineer is a problem solver. Whenever we have a situation on site that needs to be addressed, finding a solution for it gives me great pleasure and a sense of achievement. The most important challenge for me is to meet my deadline, which is what I ensure leaving no room for excuses.

In 2006, I was working in America as a Project Engineer, and on a visit to Dubai I decided to apply at Aati Contracts. The induction programme was my first insight into the significant size of the Group, which made me realise how fortunate was I to be a part of it. "

Hadeel Wais joined Al Tayer Motors in April 2004 as a receptionist for Ford at the Garhoud office. A year and a half later during the annual appraisal for the staff, Hadeel informed her manager of her intent to transfer to Sales. This feedback was positively received and the relevant tests were arranged to assess her suitability for the position. She scored well and there has been no looking back. She started her career in sales at the Sheikh Zayed road branch as a Sales Advisor for Ford, Mercury and Lincoln.

" I took up a job as a receptionist in Dubai when the war in Iraq broke out, hoping to go back home when the situation improved. However, a year later when I went back, conditions had not yet improved. So I came back and joined the Al Tayer Group with the aim of focusing on my career. For me the most interesting part of my job is the handing over of the car when a sale is completed and the customer is happy.

I started off in sales by meeting my targets, I then aimed for the second level which is an additional 15% sale and have further improved my performance by making it to the third level. It is now my goal to try and maintain these figures. Last year when I finished a year in sales I got the highest CVP (Customer View Point), which shows that I have been doing well both in terms of quality and quantity. The next goal for me is to become senior sales advisor. "

Julianne Cedana joined Ghadeer Trading, the marketing division of the Al Tayer Group in 1995 as a promoter. Her talent and potential was spotted by her manager and she was promoted to a sales executive. Over the years she has made a phenomenal growth climbing the ladder from brand supervisor to brand executive and now brand manager for fragrance brands such as Bvlgari, Salvatore Ferragamo, Bugaro, (Eccentric molecules, Jen Barvoitoes, Philip Chereon) and Salvador Dali under her current portfolio.

" When I joined the Al Tayer Group there were around 700 employees. Today, I believe there are over seven thousand people! So why do you think these people joined the Al Tayer Group? It is because of the way the management handles its people. They are here because they are happy, which is also the reason why after fourteen years I am still here as the third longest serving person in the company.

I always say that once people join this company it is like they are glued to their seats and cannot leave. The environment, the atmosphere and the harmony is the secret behind the employee loyalty towards this company. "

Lasitha Wasala joined Danzas in 2002 at the entry level as a Warehouse Assistant. Showing proficiency in his job, Lasitha quickly progressed to the next level as an Operation Clerk, then moved up to Shift in-Charge, and now holds the position of a Warehouse Supervisor. Currently Lasitha is responsible for the air freight imports from the moment the flight lands in Dubai to the point when the freight is received by the end customer, either in the local market or on to its final destination.

On arriving in Dubai, Marvin Joseph thought it best to start his career with a well-established company. His enquiries led to an interview with the Al Tayer Group and he was offered a job in sales. A year and a half later, his hard work and commitment have paid off with him being promoted to Store Supervisor. His duties now include doing reports, supervising the floor and making sure that all the customers are being attended to and are happy.

" You should have a passion for your job and if you have a passion and love the job, the job will love you back, this is what my manager told me on joining Al Tayer Group. That has been my motto ever since and has served me well.

Mayette Longcayana joined the Al Tayer Group in 2006, as a waitress at Galler in Marina Mall. Galler being a unique concept built around the love for chocolate, Mayette and her colleagues were provided with an intensive training program focusing extensively on chocolate.

" At Galler, in addition to our wide range of chocolate products we also serve an array of interesting dishes like chocolate with coco soup, hot chocolate with tea and chocolate with salads to name a few. Our dishes are really unique and cannot be found anywhere else.

Fortunately for me this is my first job here in the UAE. When I was called for the interview I knew that Al Tayer Group is a very large and good company to work for. Today I am proud to be a part of this company as is it has been good for the development and progress of my career.

The most interesting part of my job is interacting with customers. In a year’s time I would like to see myself in the position of a head waiter. I believe to be a good waitress one should know the products, be confident and patient. "

Rana Ismail joined the Al Tayer Group in October 2005 as a sales person for Jimmy Choo. She moved to a training role in 2007 and has since become a key member of the team. Her responsibilities include the induction and oriention of new employees into the company.

" I come from a conservative Egyptian family and after much persuasion my parents allowed me to go for the Al Tayer Group interview. When I did get the sales job my mother had to be convinced by the recruiters to allow me to take up the job. So finally after some struggle I came to work in Dubai from Cairo.

From day one, when I saw the training facility during my induction programme and realised how much of an effort was put into it, I knew I wanted to be a trainer.

After a year and a half, the vacancy for a trainer arose and I applied for that position. We were interviewed and had to make a presentation. I had researched a lot about presentations on the internet which helped me succeed in making a good presentation. It was better than that was expected of me and so I got the job. "

Sandeep Adhikary joined the Al Tayer Group in June 2007 as a Chief Accountant, heading a team of fifteen people, Sandeep’s portfolio consists of seventeen small and big entities primarily in the service sector as well as a few trading operations.

" I decided to join the Al Tayer Group as the company was growing at an exponential rate; it is diversifying and the existing businesses is also growing. There are a lot of opportunities in this Group and I see myself rising up the ladder and that too at a good pace.

The aspect of my work that I enjoy the most is budgeting and forecasting, as it gives me an insight into the job, what is happening and what is going to happen. This is where you get the real pulse of the business. Being part of the strategy team is very interesting.

I tell my Accountants that accounts is a translation of the business into numeric terms, so you should maintain your books and you should generate reports in a way that speaks to the person reading those reports as to what is actually happening in the business. These reports and analysis are one of the major decision making tools managers use to make the right decision. "

Valsala Nair joined Danzas in March 2000, in sales support. Currently she is working at the regional level, handling the global bidding team. She reports directly to the regional sales and marketing manager who is based in Egypt. While in sales support her responsibilities included supporting the sales team in Dubai for the pricing, quotation, acquiring of the rates from the various origins and then finally putting it in a proposal or a quotation. Since her promotion to the regional department, Valsala’s responsibility and reach has been greatly increased covering the entire emerging markets region, which consists of 73 countries.

" Danzas is a good company and I enjoy my job which is the reason why I have been working here for eight years. The most enjoyable part of my job is coordinating and meeting new people. In the future I can see myself heading the bidding team as I just love rates.

I dream, sleep and breathe rates. So that is the area I want to perfect, where I have a good knowledge of my region and know all the ins and outs of all the areas and the products we handle. I am scheduled for further training in that area as well. "

Abderrahim Houlaimi joined the Al Tayer Group in March 2006 as the Assistant Manager for Almaz, the Moroccan restaurant located on the level three of Harvey Nichols at the Mall of the Emirates.

" As an Assistant Manager it is my responsibility to check everything from stock to customer complaints. I have to report to my superiors, conduct daily briefing for the staff, motivate them and most importantly lead by example. This job is not easy but I love my job and make sure the work gets done. The most enjoyable part of my job is to socialise with people, they come here to have a good time and expect quality food and quality service. It is my job to make sure that their expectations are met and that they leave with a good impression.

Boby Krishnan joined the Obaid Humaid Al Tayer Engineering department as a Sales Engineer in January 2002. As a qualified mechanical engineer with an MBA in Marketing, Boby joined the Al Tayer Group looking to further develop his career. As a Sales Manager, the main products under his portfolio include electricity meters, connectors, office electrical cable management solutions and Clestra demountable partitions.

" As part of my routine, on Thursdays I go through the sales reports and plan for the week ahead. Unlike normal sales for us based on the specification from the client, we send that enquiry to the principals and then finally give the prices. Due to the currency fluctuation and changes in freight costs, prices are not fixed. Our products also have a gestation period of two to three years, so the fruits of our labour over the last few years are beginning to bear now. We are currently also looking into the feasibility of certain products and should be introducing new products shortly.

Gulanara Zhakeyan joined the Al Tayer Group in May 1999 as a Beauty Consultant for Areej. In 1995, Gulanara came to Dubai from Kazakhstan to start her career and support her family back home. Over the years she has gradually learnt about the different cultures and backgrounds of people from all over the world, which has helped her perform extremely well in her job. Earlier this year, Gulanara was promoted to Department Manager of the cosmetics section at Harvey Nichols. Her responsibilities are to look after the staff, solving customer complaints, organise the merchandise and manage the daily running of the store.

Mewan Wickramesinghe joined Al Tayer Motors in September 2002 as a Service Advisor. Born and brought up in Dubai, Mewan pursued his Bachelors is Automotive Systems Engineering in London. During this period he landed himself an internship with Al Tayer Motors, where he gained the much required hands-on experience. On completion of the degree course, he was absorbed by the company for a full-time role. Mewan is currently the Workshop Manager for Jaguar and Land Rover brands at the Sheikh Zayed Road Branch.

" Over the years I have grown with the company. In terms of business, the company has grown twelve fold in the last three years and expanded from a single location to multiple locations in multiple cities. When I moved to the Sheikh Zayed Road branch I had a team of twelve people. Today, I head a team of 120 people, which has been a wonderful learning experience for me.

My personal growth rate over the past three to four years has been very rapid. Looking ahead I would like to take on a larger responsibility; managing an area rather than a location is a challenge I look forward to. I want my company and my career to continue progressing at the current rate. "

Reah Barquez joined the Al Tayer Group in March 2004 as a Promoter. In her current role, she gets assigned to work in different outlets during a promotional campaign. When not promoting the brand, she works at the Areej store in the Mall of the Emirates.

" As one of the senior promoters who studied advertising in college, I am usually given the added responsibility of creating a presentation and handing it over to my manager as part of the marketing report for our suppliers.

While my job can be strenuous, what I like about my job is that it is not like a regular office job; here you get to meet new and interesting people all the time.

To be a promoter, one has to have good communication skills, be responsible, flexible with regards to timings and most importantly have very good product knowledge. Working for Al Tayer Group has been a very good experience as the company has been growing rapidly and the management takes care of the welfare of its employees. "

Fatma Mohmmed Obied joined Al Tayer Group in 2005 with the sales team for Areej in Mercato mall. In 2007 she was promoted to Store Supervisor before being transferred to the head office as an Emiratisation assistant in the Emiratisation department. Her responsibilities include conducting interviews for Emarati job seekers, solving problems and providing encouragement and support to Emarati employees once they have joined the company.

" As times change, Emaratis are keener on working in the private sector. It is my desire to help Emaratis to work hard and grow as there are a lot of opportunities for us. When conducting the interviews I look for communication skills, a minimum English speaking ability but most importantly a genuine interest to work.

I want to set an example for other Emaratis to see, learn and grow as I have done. I recommend all my friends and relatives to join Al Tayer Group as my personal experience has been very good.
